§ 9. Organizational meeting of governing authority.

  • Be it further enacted, that on the first day of January (unless said first day falls on Sunday or a legal holiday in which event on the following day) after their election, the mayor-elect, councilmen-elect, and the two councilmen shall meet at the council chamber of said city for the purpose of organizing, and the mayor-elect and councilmen-elect shall severally take, before some officer authorized to administer oaths, the following oath of office, to wit: I do solemnly swear that I will well and truly perform my duties as mayor (or councilman) of the City of Cumming during my term of office, and that I will faithfully enforce the laws and ordinances of said city to the best of my ability without fear or failure, and in all actions as mayor (or councilman) act as I believe for the best interest of the city, and uphold the Constitution and laws of the State of Georgia and of the United States; so help me God." Should the mayor or any councilman be absent from said meeting, he or they may take oath of office as soon thereafter as possible.
